Residents Association - pointless without UP

Lots of people seem to want a Residents' Association. Am I the only one who thinks that would be a pointless exercise unless UP sanctioned and supported one? I am not really interested in a RA unless UP invites one to be formed, officially recognises it and provides representation at management level.

  • Anonymous flyer or not, the community has stood up and as per the letter received this morning, UP are willing to meet with tenants and owners. They have already met representatives from the apartments, just not the villa's. We therefore need people to come forward to "represent" the villa and townhouse part of the community.

This meeting should not be a winge or whine but a constructive meeting detailing our concerns (we all know about the lack of progress on the snagging and the dreadful state of the gardens)and any suggestions to improve our community i.e. recycling, bike stands, etc.

Therefore this forum should be used to initially appoint our representatives who can then arrange a meeting with UP. So as they say, step up and be counted. That includes you Green Man! We need at least 5-8 people to attend.

    Do we have any volunteers?

  • Agreed that we now need to focus on getting a proportional representation in front of UP and having them agree to the meeting.
We should be mindful that Ms Soppesla is both an employe and new to UP. It is unlikely that she can sanction such 'radical' move forwrad as recogniton of a Residents Committee. Nevertheless, we suggest that the Green Man telephones her and asks to set up an informal discussion with one represenative from each road and each apartment block. This will not over-whelming. The agenda should be set in advance and this site can be used to canvas ideas. The informal meeting will be the basis on which direction to move forwrad. UP's responses have been too quick and too defensive and it may be time for a change in directuion to a more passive approach. The same result is to be acheived - a Residents Committee is vital for longterm protection to a Community that haprobably has the highest content of owner / occupiers - but let's focus on the key points.

  • Hi!
i really appreciate the initiative of everybody involved and believe it was long overdue.

The first important step has been accomplished and GC management has been forced to recognize that they have to take people's concerns seriously.

As most of you mentioned the next step would be to get into discussion with UP.

    Here's my comment now:
Please dont rush into things now. I dont want to be stuck in a situation where GC management can rightfully claim that whoever sits on the other side of the table represents only a radical minority group. Give everybody time to take part in the discussion and involve even more residents.

    Cheers,
    Ben
